From a newspaper to MyBacklinkIndex

The story of Adrián and David: how we went from optimizing articles in the IT department of a major newspaper to building a system that indexes content automatically.

Two founders charting an indexing route over a map of the SEO world

📖 Chapter I: The meeting

Once upon a time, in the IT department of one of the largest newspapers in the USA, two colleagues who had no idea what was coming their way:

  • Adrián — in charge of article SEO.
  • David — in charge of interlinking and external backlinks.

They weren't even in the same team, but fate (and a few misconfigured servers) brought them together. While Adrián optimized headlines and David built link networks, they formed an alliance that's still going strong.

You probably read some of those articles. We could feel it in the traffic.

📖 Chapter II: The split

After 4 years (2019 + 4 = 2023) of loyal service, the newspaper decided to break its website into smaller sub-editorials. You know how it goes: micro-sites, new verticals, organizational chaos.

To handle the transition, the company brought in an external agency. And guess who stood out so much that the agency hired them shortly after:

We couldn't say no.

📖 Chapter III: The agency

At the agency we worked on everything: blogs, newsletters, SaaS platforms, publishers big and small. The job was the same as at the newspaper, just with a lot more clients. We jumped from project to project, reviving pages that had been dead in search engines for years. Every year we earned a bonus. The trick was always the same: optimize thoroughly.

  • Headlines that pulled clicks
  • keywords (which actually worked back then)
  • Sharp meta descriptions
  • Keyword density calculated to the millimeter
Technical details from that era (expand)

Back then, the recipe was almost magic:

  1. Pick the main keyword.
  2. Put it in the H1, meta description, and first paragraphs.
  3. Build backlinks with exact anchor text.
  4. Wait for Google to reward the effort.

It worked. Search engines rewarded the effort and articles climbed fast.

📖 Chapter IV: Indexing, from 2019 to 2026

This is what brought us here. Over 6 years ago we started working seriously on indexing articles and backlinks.

Back then it was easy:

Google Bot → Receives "ping" → Indexes everything → Done

Search engines had APIs and ping systems to alert them: "hey robot, come check this out." And the bot obeyed. We built backlinks, sent the signal to Google, and within days (sometimes hours) the content was indexed. That was about it.

But Google and Bing kept changing the rules. First they shut down the APIs. Then they stopped responding to pings. Over time they became increasingly selective about what they'd index.

Then (~2019)Now (2026)
Indexed almost everythingHighly selective
Indexing APIs were openAPIs shut down
Pinging workedBots ignore direct commands
Having content was enoughThey demand quality and context
Google went from indexing nearly everything to rejecting content that doesn't meet its quality standards.
«Sometimes we miss those days when everything was so simple…» — Adrián & David

Every algorithm update was a new boss fight. You had to test, check, and verify until things worked again, right before the next update hit. That cycle of constant adaptation is what led us to automate and, eventually, to build MyBacklinkIndex.

📖 Chapter V: "Crawled but not indexed"

In 2026, the most common problem we run into has a name: crawled currently not indexed. Google crawls your page, knows it exists, but decides not to index it. It won't show up in search results.

Google has become very demanding. With the volume of content published every day (much of it AI-generated), the search engine processes fewer pages and is far more selective about what makes the cut. The recent algorithm updates, including the Helpful Content Updates, reflect this shift.

There are several reasons a page ends up in this state:

  • Duplicate or low-value content
  • Technical issues with robots.txt or noindex tags
  • Poor site structure and missing internal links
  • Content Google doesn't consider original or useful enough

And here's what really matters: there are a lot of services out there promising fast indexing. Methods that might work in the short term. But Google isn't stupid. Its bots are getting better at detecting when someone is trying to game the system.

When Google catches those practices, the result is worse than doing nothing: you lose months of legitimate indexing work. Everything you'd built up the right way gets dragged down with it.

📖 Chapter VI: How we work

After 6+ years in this business, our position is clear: we do things right, not fast.

We don't promise that everything will get indexed. That's not up to us, it's up to Google. What we do guarantee is that your content will be crawled cleanly and systematically, with no risk to your domain.

Our methods encourage bots to visit your site. We work on the communication with crawlers so your content has the best possible chance, but they're the ones that decide what gets indexed and what doesn't. What we'll never do is use techniques that put the work you already have in jeopardy.

We're not the fastest option out there. We know that. But we've spent years watching shortcuts destroy websites: someone promises indexing in 10 minutes, uses aggressive methods, Google catches on, and a month later you've lost everything you'd built in six. We prefer patience. The results we get stick around.

We're confident enough in how we work that we give away 2000 free credits, enough to index 20 links, no credit card required. We want you to see our work before you commit to anything.

With years of experience behind us, we decided to leave the agency and start our own project. And here's the twist: that agency where we used to work is still one of our clients today. We still work together, them as clients, us doing what we do best.

📖 Epilogue

What we've built so far:

  • A friendship that started in 2019
  • 6+ years of indexing content
  • Hundreds of clients whose pages we pulled out of obscurity
  • An automated system that runs clean

We offer 2000 free credits to try the platform, enough to index 20 links. No credit card, no strings attached. We trust our work.
